LIFT EVERY VOICE: THE BIDEN PLAN FOR BLACK AMERICA

President Biden has emphasized a particular set of themes in his orders. These themes were seen in the orders Biden signed immediately after taking office as well as his administration’s focus on the urgency to contain the pandemic, deliver economic relief to tens of millions of Americans, and advance racial justice and equity across the board in health care, education, housing, our economy, our environment, our justice system, and in our electoral process.

On day 1 (1/20), his actions focused on several substantive areas: public health and addressing COVID-19; climate change; immigration; race and gender equality; reordering regulatory priorities and managing the executive branch.

Day 2 (1/21): Particularly focused on response to COVID-19.

Day 3 (1/22): Took aim at several of President Trump’s regulatory reforms including the creation of civil service “Schedule F.”

Days 4-5 (1/23-24): No action. (Saturday-Sunday)

Day 6 (1/25): Permitting transgender individuals to serve in the military; “buy-American” directive for Federal government procurement.

The Biden Plan for Black America will:

  • Advance the economic mobility of African Americans and close the racial wealth and income gaps.
  • Expand access to high-quality education and tackle racial inequity in our education system.
  • Make far-reaching investments in ending health disparities by race.
    Strengthen America’s commitment to justice.
  • Make the right to vote and the right to equal protection real for African Americans.
    Address environmental justice.

Below is a list of some of Biden’s plans for the next 100 days:

  • Asking Americans to wear masks (and making them, where he can)
  • 100 million vaccines in American arms
  • Most US schools open
  • Passing a $1.9 trillion economic relief plan
  • Introducing a new immigration proposal with a pathway to citizenship

Joe Biden has been U.S. president for less than two weeks and has already issued nearly as many executive action as Trump and Obama did in the same period, combined. Biden hit the ground running, enacting 25 executive orders, 10 presidential memos, and four proclamations within his first 12 days in office.

  • Mandating mask wearing on federal property
  • Support for under-served communities
  • Rejoining the World Health Organization
  • Rejoining the Paris climate agreement
  • Ending Trump’s travel ban on mostly-Muslim countries
  • Stopping the Keystone XL pipeline
  • Rescind the Trump administration’s 1776 Commission
